What we do

What does BCY actually do, then?

Assemblies & Lessons
Much of the work of BCY at present is in the form of assemblies and lessons. We are happy to fit in with a school’s thoughts for the week, seasons of the Christian calendar or pick up on a recent news event and challenge students to ask, ‘what does this mean for me?’ Our assemblies always include Christian content – a Bible verse, personal experiences, prayer, a Christian perspective on an issue. Lessons will always be tailored to fit a school’s requirements within their provision of PSHE / RE / Ethics. In the last year we have taken lessons on Marriage and the family, What makes someone a Christian?, ‘Suffering proves there is no God’ and Wealth and Poverty.

If you are interested in us taking an assembly or lesson, please contact the office.

The Zone
This is our monthly club for middle school aged young people (years 5 -8) It takes place at Great Barton Free Church (unless we let you know otherwise) from 7pm - 8.30pm and is a great mix of eats & drinks, fun & games, a great place to learn about Jesus and see that what God has to say to us through the Bible is totally relevant to us as young people today!
In 08/09 we have... Sung like stars, danced on mats, driven beetles, dressed as cybermen, conducted strange experiments, bounced along an assault course, had a film night, sculpted junk, eaten pizza, and wrapped Matt up as a parcel… phew!
Dates and activities for 09/10 will be published soon!

The Zone is run by BCY in partnership with local churches - for dates and themes see the Calendar pages.

Rock Solid
Nicola oversees the Rock Solid lunch clubs in 5 middle schools in Bury, attended by between 7 and 27 students, depending on which school you choose and which week you go! They are a fun mix of games, Bible stories, craft activities, discussion and learning about Jesus.

Nicola couldn't do this exciting work without the help of local church partners who run the clubs alongside her – Alison & Susie. It's a brilliant example of the kind of co-operation between schools / churches / BCY that we hope to see more and more of in the future!

If a club is run at your school, then you will always be welcome…

Pray For Schools
A team effort by BCY to create an event that encourages people of all ages to pray for their local schools. Our goal for Pray For Schools is to make every school a prayed for school.

To do this effectively we believe that it is important to be informed of what is going on within our schools. Including the organisations and individuals that visit the schools, the staff working in the schools and not forgetting the students that make the school what it is.

So if you would like to know more about those who visit the schools, more about the things staff and students face day to day or maybe would just like a place to go to pray for your local school, you are very welcome to come and join us...

To find out when and where the next Pray For Schools is being held, view our calandar or become a fan of our facebook fanpage.

If you would like to join or a create a pray group for your local school, please contact our office: office@bcy.org.uk

The future...?

We're currently working through some exciting ideas for the future - and promise to keep you posted on any developments!

It's also worth saying that we are always open to getting involved in new ways with schools - suggest something to us! You never know, it might just work...
